More than 150 local and international runners are expected to take part in the first-ever North Negros Marathon on Sept. 7, a 42-kilometer race that will put the spotlight on the 2nd Congressional District of Negros Occidental.

The marathon will begin at Gregorio Lauron Sr. Park in Manapla, traverse the streets of Cadiz City, and culminate at the Sagay City public plaza, offering participants a challenging route that highlights the unity of northern Negros communities.

Athletes will compete in three categories: Open, Age Group, and Tag Team Relay Marathon.

Winners will take home major prizes, including hotel accommodations at Nature’s Village Resort in Talisay, an Adidas Evo SL running shoes, a Garmin Forerunner 55 watch, and P70,000 worth of running gear.

The event is supported by the Office of 2nd District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III, in collaboration with the local governments of Manapla, Cadiz, and Sagay.

Race coordinator Joachim Sarrosa said this historic event encourages everyone to embrace an active lifestyle, while highlighting the values of courage, discipline, and determination that running instills.

“Beyond personal achievement, it is a unifying force that brings communities together, strengthening bonds across North Negros,” Sarrosa stressed in a press release Sept. 5.

Marañon, who has long advocated sports and wellness, said the marathon is part of his commitment to encourage healthier lifestyles while also fostering camaraderie and unity across the district.

“The North Negros Marathon is a celebration of wellness, discipline, and community spirit,” he added. ||
