Today, we launch the new format of the Negros NOW Daily.

From a magazine-tabloid format, we go full tabloid with an initial 6-page layout. We are forging ahead with this new format, although some community papers either folded up or reduced their circulation to a trickle. We are bravely venturing into this new phase for Negros Weekly Inc., the mother company of NND, when digital editions of newspapers have become the norm due to the COVID pandemic.

We remain committed to the task of providing the Negrosanon community with a newspaper that contains information of facts and data gathered from the field by our reporters, assessed for its value to the readers, and validated and edited by our editors. Like most of our peers, we intend to preserve the reliability and integrity of community journalism.

The new format of NND wishes to convey the firm belief of the men and women behind the paper, who see beyond the challenges of the pandemic a better and brighter future for the local media. We believe that no matter how battered and bruised our spirits are, as COVID indiscriminately diminishes our ranks, community journalism, as we know it, will be unyielding.

But then again, we are not diving into this with the ideals of newly-minted career chasers, who have bottomless capital investment. More than the skills and experiences of our staff, we need the support of the community to sustain this venture.

As the first copy of the NND tabloid hits the newsstands today, we seek the support of the reading public, the members of the business community who fought and are still fighting the pandemic with ingenuity by re-inventing their approaches and crafting new strategies.

Let us all get behind this new venture that seeks to protect the relevance of newspapers. We might get the information that we need at one swipe on smart phones or tablets, or a click on computer screens. And yes, the NND caters to that need through our website and social media pages, and via the NND QR Code.

However, the luxury of reading the news along with a steaming cup of coffee will never get old. — NND
