For three consecutive years now, the municipality of E. B. Magalona in Negros Occidental, through its Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC), has been a consistent recipient of the Green Banner Seal of Compliance (GBSC) for its outstanding programs on nutrition.

The GBSC is an award presented by the National Nutrition Council and Regional Nutrition Committee to local government units (LGUs) in recognition of their sustainable intervention programs to combat and eradicate malnutrition, especially among children.

The MNC, chaired by Mayor Marvin Malacon, has received the GBSC for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023.

The GBSC for 2023 was received by Dr. Edmundo Janeo Jr., municipal health officer and action officer of the MNC, during the 2024 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held at Smallville 21 Hotel in Iloilo City on Thursday (Nov. 21).

For an LGU to become a recipient of GSBC, it should garner an overall accomplishment rating of at least 85 percent in its Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation that assesses the performance of the LGUs and its nutrition workers.

E. B. Magalona was one of only two municipalities in Negros Occidental that won the GBSC for 2023, while five cities from Negros Occidental won in the city category.

Malacon lauded the offices and agencies that are members of the MNC for their collective efforts in implementing interventions that have significant positive impact on the nutrition situation of the whole municipality.

“The health and well-being of Saraviahanon children is our utmost priority. Our young people are our future leaders. We cannot afford to lose their dreams by losing the battle against malnutrition,” Malacon said. ||
