Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo has asked the Sangguniang Panlungsod to extend to Feb. 20 the deadline for the renewal of business permits, professional and occupations taxes, mayor’s permit for motorcycle drivers, and retirement of businesses, from the original Jan. 21 schedule.

Remollo made the request following the letter of City Treasurer Leonidasa Oira, who said that personnel managing and using the electronic Business Permit Licensing System (eBPLS) may encounter issues in the indorsement, assessment, and receipt of business taxes since the city has only been implementing the system for three years.

“In fact, as of this writing, there are still a large number of taxpayers whose applications are handled by bookkeepers/accounting firms, who have not yet paid their business taxes,” Oira said in her letter to Remollo.

The city’s Business One Stop Shop (BOSS) is ongoing from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with no noon break.

The BOSS is mandated under Republic Act 11032, or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018, with local government units mandated to operate their respective BOSS to receive and process applications, receive payments, and issue approved licenses, clearances, permits, or authorizations. | CGC
