The proposed P200-million skateboard park with basketball courts, to be constructed at the Pantawan II People’s Park Rizal Boulevard in Dumaguete City is already undergoing soil testing prior to the construction of the facilities.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said a number of meetings had been held with a team of engineers from the Department of Public Works and Highways Negros Island Region since last year.
Remollo said the P200 million funding was included in the General Appropriations Act of 2025, adding the project aims to provide skateboard enthusiasts with safe and adequate facilities where they can practice and hone their skills in this extreme sports.

This is instead of being in the streets with makeshift skate obstacles that are dangerous and bothersome to pedestrians, motorists, or residents, the city said in a recent press release.
Meanwhile, the basketball courts will be constructed in the beach volleyball area at Pantawan People’s Park.
The city government is pursuing the project with the DPWH-NIR, in support of the thriving skateboarding community to provide them a venue not only to safely practice but adequate enough to host large competitions.
Remollo, in consultation with the team of DPWH-NIR, including Engr. Jinky Ostan, Architect Carlito Castillo II, and Engr. Julie Ann Laforteza-Belen, already signed the vicinity map, perspective, site development plan, location plan, certificate of no objection, and certificate that the proposed project does not violate the local zoning ordinance.
Upon completion, the skateboard park with basketball courts will enhance the outdoor experience for residents and visitors of the Pantawan People’s Park that was designed to support sports and recreational activities to promote health, wellness and tourism, the city added. ||
