Hundreds of World War II veterans and their spouses and descendants, military officials, students, and local leaders, led by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, gathered Saturday at the Manuel L. Quezon Park to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation day of Dumaguete from Japanese occupation on April 26, 1945.
As part of the ceremony, Remollo and Ltc Michael Aquino led the dignitaries in laying wreaths before the Liberation Day marker in homage to the gallant men and women, Filipino guerillas and the US Army, who paid the ultimate price so the city can regain its freedom.

Remollo expressed his deep gratitude and paid tribute to the heroism of the World War II veterans, who risked or lost their lives to free Dumaguete and its citizens from the Japanese Imperial soldiers, the city said.
