The Philippine Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion (IB) has strongly condemned the summary execution of a woman by remnants of the New People’s Army (NPA) on April 21 in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

The NPA’s Mt.  Cansermon Command has issued a statement claiming responsibility for the death Myrna “En-En” Bilando in Sitio Dug-anon of Barangay Oringao.

Rebel spokesman Dionesio Magbuelas alleged that Bilando engaged in spying activities, being an intelligent asset of the 94IB.

In a statement, the 94IB denied that the victim was a military asset.

Meanwhile, remnants of the NPA were also tagged as suspects in the death of a farmer, who was shot dead in front of his wife, on April 20 in Barangay Lagaan, Calatrava town.

Initial police investigation showed that the victim, a 54-year-old farmer, and his wife were tilling their farm when the armed men arrived.

The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot injuries, according to the police. | GB
