The Dumaguete City government has partnered with Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines Inc. (CCBPI) for the largescale collection of used PET bottles and processing them inside the central Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).
The processed items will then be shipped to a recycling plant in Luzon, thus reducing plastic wastes in the city.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo signed the memorandum of agreement to formalize the partnership with CCBPI Corporate and Regulatory Affairs director, Atty. Juan Lorenzo Tañada, the other day in Dumaguete.
As per the “Tapon to Ipon” project under the World Without Waste program, the CCBPI will provide a baling machine to the central MRF to flatten and compact the collected used plastic bottles that will be shipped outside the city.
Remollo said he believes in the objective of the project of ensuring that used plastic bottles can be recycled and reused “for infinity”, thereby helping reduce the accumulation of plastic wastes for a healthier environment and cleaner Dumaguete.
The “Tapon to Ipon” project aims to collect and recycle the equivalent of every bottle and can that Coca-Cola sells by 2030, the city said in a press release Aug. 28.
Present during the signing ceremony were Atty. Chrisette Agustin and Regional Sales manager Wendell Dayrit of CCBPI, City Environment and Natural Resources officer Chilvier Patrimonio, Engr. Leticia Duran of the City MRF, Atty. Camelo Pidor Jr., Atty. Francis Ray Filipinas, and Adriel Zane Maxino of the City Legal Office. ||
