Dolphin rescued in Sipalay City

A bottlenose dolphin, measuring 1.60 meters, was rescued by the Sipalay Bantay Dagat personnel Aug. 28 in the waters off Purok Kalubihan, Barangay Cartagena in the city.

The distressed dolphin was seen by Gelonimo Galvez, 44, a resident of the barangay, who reported the sighting to authorities.

The Bantay Dagat team, composed of Edsel Toledo, Ronald Barcenas, and Roderico Bolo, assessed the marine mammal and found that while there were no wounds on its body, it has buoyancy control problem, the city said in a press release.

The dolphin is currently being kept in a safe location in Sitio Dul-ongan, Barangay Canturay, for monitoring and recovery, it added. ||
