The Department of Health in Western Visayas Center for Health Development said yesterday that Bacolod City surpassed its target for herd immunity, with the number of fully vaccinated residents now at 414,880.

Emergency Operations Center deputy executive director, Dr. Chris Sorongon, said this is another milestone for the city which already fully vaccinated 101.2 percent of its target population.

“We are happy with this development. It is very important that we have achieved herd immunity. But the work of the EOC will continue in giving vaccines to still unvaccinated individuals, particularly the anti-vaxxers,” Sorongon said.

The EOC is thankful for the cooperation of the residents since majority of the Bacolodnons have shown a positive response when the vaccines became available.

With the expected arrival of the AstraZeneca vaccine doses purchased by the city government, Bacolod will have sufficient supply for the next months to support the giving of booster doses to the priority sector, he added.  — MML
