The Department of Education–Division of Sagay City has condemned the senseless and unforgivable act of violence that claimed the lives of a teacher and her husband on June 17 in Purok Diot, Brgy. Molocaboc, Sagay, Negros Occidental.

Arlene Bermejo, assistant schools division superintendent, in a statement issued by the DepEd Division of Sagay City, said they were saddened to hear the loss of lives of Melanie Desamparado, a teacher from Molocaboc School, and her husband, Emerlito.

“While we wait for the speedy investigation of this case, we enjoin everyone to offer their sincerest words of encouragement, fervent prayers for comfort and healing, and give any assistance to the family as they go through these difficult times,” Bermejo said.

“Let us continue to pray for one another and constantly look after the welfare of all our learners, teachers, and every DepEd personnel,” Bermejo said.

Initial investigations of the Sagay City police showed that Ermelito, 46, fetched Melanie, 44, at the Molocaboc wharf, and were waylaid and shot several times.

Both victims succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot, the police said.

P/Lt. Abundio Diaz, Sagay City deputy police chief, said they already have a person of interest in the killing of the couple.
