The 150 families, composed of 557 individuals, from four sitios of Barangay Yubo in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental would be allowed to return home during the weekend once the situation of Mt. Kanlaon stabilizes.
Mayor Rex Jalando-on said on Thursday (Sept. 4) that these families were placed under preemptive evacuation, but he encouraged the senior citizens and those who are bedridden to remain with their relatives at the poblacion.
La Carlota City has been placed under a state of calamity due to the restiveness of Kanlaon volcano and the effects of southwest monsoon.
On Sept. 21, about 2,800 La Castellana town evacuees from danger areas of the volcano have already returned home.
In the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded seven volcanic quakes, compared to double digits in the previous days, while it also logged 7,302 tonnes of sulfur dioxide emission from the volcano on Sept. 25.
The volcano edifice remains inflated, with Alert Level 2 still in effect over Mt. Kanlaon.
Entry to the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone is also prohibited. | GB
