Rep. Emilio Bernardino Yulo will likely have an opponent in the fifth district congressional race of Negros Occidental in the May 2025 mid-term elections.

Board Member Anthony Dennis Occeño himself sees the possibility of a battle between Yulo and Dina Arroyo Tantoco, daughter of the late Rep. Ignacio Arroyo.

He said that Tantoco, who is a registered voter of Isabela town, may transfer her residency to Barangay Robles in La Castellana, where an hacienda owned by her husband’s family is located.

Occeño confirmed that Tantoco has been going around the fifth district, but she has yet to issue a statement regarding her political plans in Negros Occidental.

Yulo unseated then Rep. Marilou Arroyo, the aunt of Tantoco, during the May 2022 elections.

Occeño, who confirmed his intention to seek reelection, said he will remain as an independent candidate, although he is a member of the ruling Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. | GB
