The Department of Education family in Western Visayas recently honored Toboso Mayor Richard Jaojoco for his support to DepEd’s alternative learning programs under the “new normal” via his “Modyul Baylo Bugas” initiative.
The MBB program, introduced by Jaojoco in collaboration with DepEd Toboso headed by Public Schools District Supervisor Edily Agravante-Leonardo during the opening of classes last month, was designed to encourage the more than 10,000 pupils in 26 schools for timely compliance of their assignments by answering their modules in exchange for a kilo of rice per student.
The program also reached the national stage as it was featured in DepEd Central’s official Facebook Page since it was exclusively published by the Bacolod-based Negros Weekly news magazine on FB and its online platform, Negros Now Daily.
It went viral in 24 hours since it first came out. As of latest check, the story already reached over 130,000 people on FB, and had an engagement of more than 78,000. The story has 619 shares as of date.
The MBB program, Jaojoco explained, does not limit the rice subsidy per family in exchange for completed modules for the week. Meaning, if a family has five students and all have complied, they will get five kilos of rice for the week.
At the DepEd Region 6 program late last week, the Division of Negros Occidental featured Toboso’s MBB program which was cited as “most remarkable support” to basic education by an LGU.
The Western Visayas-wide gathering, the first-ever virtual and 4th School-based Management- Wash in Schools (SBM-WINS) Regional Learning Exchange, was attended by DepEd Regional Director Gemma Ledesma, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, local chief executives, division superintendents, district supervisors, school heads and health officers of different schools, among others, was hosted by the Schools Division Office of Roxas City, Leonardo said.
The virtual gathering that went live on FB has for its theme, “Schools to Homes, WINS Fighting Pandemic in Western Visayas”.
The feature (on video) on (the MBB program of) Toboso was made in order to honor and recognize the leadership of Mayor Jaojoco in coordination with the national and provincial efforts in providing support to the delivery of quality basic education and promoting health standards amidst the pandemic,” organizers said.-ETL
