A major concern raised prior to the start of the distance-learning approach in basic, secondary and tertiary education in the country due to the suspension of face-to-face classes was that of connectivity and access to online learning platforms.

It has been common knowledge that students, mostly of public schools, especially in remote communities, would have difficulty in their learning due to unavailability or lack of technology.

For learners in a southern barangay, that problem has been solved by the power of partnership between government and private sector.

The Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation Inc., the Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas and the local government of Cauayan pooled resources to provide Caliling National High School that needed connectivity through the installation of facilities and equipment that provide students and teachers easy internet access to enhance their learning processes.

The partnership also strengthens the Senior High’s STEM program with the setting up of a laboratory utilizing 3D printers and related resources.

Such is the power of partnership and inter-connection – through the sharing of resources and expertise among sectors – in the development of education vital to the expansion of opportunities to spur economic activities in rural communities. – NWI
