In February 1986, the world witnessed a peaceful revolution that changed the course of Philippine history. The People Power EDSA Revolution was not just a political movement – it was a powerful display of courage, unity, and faith.
This historic event reminds us that as Christians, we are called not only to pray but also to act in the face of injustice and to stand for what is right. But what does the Bible say about our role in society? How should our faith influence our social involvement?
First, stand for justice.
Micah 6:8 says, “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
As followers of Christ, we are called to seek justice and defend the oppressed. The Bible is filled with examples of believers who stood up against injustice – from Moses leading the Israelites out of slavery to the prophets who challenged corrupt leaders.
Today, we are called to be the voice for the voiceless, to defend the weak, and to promote fairness in our communities. Whether it is speaking against corruption or supporting those in need, our faith must move us to act.
Second, serve the community.
Galatians 5:13 says, “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.”
The heart of Christian social involvement is service. Jesus Himself said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve” (Matthew 20:28).
Serving the community means caring for the poor, comforting the brokenhearted, and meeting the needs of those around us. When we serve others, we reflect Christ’s love and point people to Him.
Third, speak the truth in love.
Ephesians 4:15 says, “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ.”
Christians are called to be truth-bearers in society. In a world filled with misinformation and fear, we must speak truth with grace and boldness. This means addressing social issues with wisdom, standing for Biblical values, and promoting peace and reconciliation.
As Christians, our social involvement is an extension of our faith. Stand for justice, serve your community, and speak truth in love. Let us be the light that shines brightly in a world that needs the hope of Christ. | NWI
