Barangays Villamonte and Bata received Jan. 29 checks for P8.4 million and P2.6 million, respectively, representing their shares in the garbage services charges paid to the Bacolod City government.
Villamonte punong barangay Rommel Flores and Bata punong barangay Remus Abaring received the checks from Councilor Thaddy Sayson and Ma. Fe Trespuentes, officer-in-charge of the Department of Public Services, the city said.
Villamonte has earmarked the share to purchase three mini dump trucks that could enter small areas or puroks in the barangay.
“This initiative strongly aligns with Mayor Alfredo Benitez’s vision of fostering a cleaner and greener city for all residents,” the city said.
The share of a barangay depends on the revenue from garbage fees paid by business establishments located in the area.
Under City Ordinance 479-2009, a barangay has a 50-percent share from the proceeds of garbage services charges collected from “business establishments, occupation, calling, or undertaking located in its territorial jurisdiction”.
Last year, the city government also turned over the 50 percent garbage fee shares of barangays 4, 26, 33, 40, Banago, Montevista, Taculing, and Alijis.
Benitez also reminded the punong barangays “to proactively engage with the garbage collection services of the City and sustain its efforts for cleanliness to eschew effects of waste pollution”. ||
