The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) is investigating the entry of contrabands, which jail officers confiscated inside the Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ)-Male Dormitory in Bago City on Sept.1.

In a statement, Jail Senior Insp. Juniven Rey Umadhay, BJMP-Negros Island Region spokesman, said the greyhound operation was conducted, following intelligence reports and verified information that some persons deprived of liberty (PDL) were in possession of unauthorized items, including smartphones.

During the inspection, jail authorities were able to confiscate various contrabands ranging from improvised bladed weapons, heater equipment, pointed steel bars, and improvised bats that could potentially be used as deadly weapons.

Late last month, jail officers also recovered a caliber .45 pistol thrown from outside the jail.

The greyhound operation concluded with no untoward incidents recorded as PDL extended full cooperation to their jailers.

Last week, some inmates held a noise barrage to air their complaints on tight security being implemented inside the NODJ, which was justified by jail authorities as a response to the attempt on the life of a BJMP personnel. | GB
