Bacolod City continues to foolproof various government documents, aside from the identification cards of the elderly and persons with disabilities, through the use of QR codes.

Mayor Alfredo Benitez said the city “made the acquisition of government documents fool-proof by implementing the use QR-codes, which allow verification and discourage fixers and scammers.”

“Through these technology-driven solutions, we have improved the ease of doing business, effectively resulting in increased investor confidence, higher local revenues, and more job opportunities,” the mayor said in a statement.

The city said Nov. 26 that 50,433 QR-coded IDs have been distributed to senior citizens, and 17,078 to PWDs across the city.

By integrating QR codes into these IDs, the city aims to strengthen data security and prevent the proliferation of fake cards, which can affect both business operations and government processes, the Public Information Office said.

Other QR-enabled documents include the land tax declaration, land tax certification, business registration plate, tricycle franchise and sticker, barangay business clearance, special permit, City Population certificate of compliance, Bacolod Housing Authority certificate, and certificate of annual inspection.

This initiative takes innovation to the next level to heighten data security and boost the level of transparency that strengthen trust between residents and businesses, ensuring that all transactions are both secure and verifiable, the city said in a press release, adding that with this innovative and sustainable project, Bacolod “fosters its vision of continued development and progress”. | CGC
