The local government allotted P86.21 million for the city-operated Bacolod City College for this year, from P83.16 million in 2024.
The appropriation includes P37.24 million for personal services, and P48.97 million in Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses.
This as the Sangguniang Panlungsod recently congratulated BCC for being officially accredited by the Association of Local Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (ALCUCOA) across all its 10 programs.
“This milestone marks a pivotal moment in the Bacolod City College’s history, fostering local impact and also contributing to its recognition for excellence on both regional and national levels among higher education institutions,” the resolution of commendation, authored by Councilor Al Victor Espino, stressed.
This first ALCUCOA accreditation of BCC on its 27th year as a higher education institution “reassures that quality education is maintained in the offering of academic programs in higher education institutions. It has local, regional, national and international significance in the delivery of educational programs,” the SP stressed.
The accreditation was conferred to BCC by ALCUCOA president and executive director, Dr. Raymundo Arcega, on Dec. 11, 2024. The Association is a nonprofit organization responsible for accrediting colleges and universities in the Philippines, ensuring that they meet the standards set by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), said Espino, chairperson of the SP Committee on Education.
The accreditation process involves a rigorous evaluation of the school’s compliance to standards in the areas of instruction, library, laboratories, student services, research, community extension, partnerships, and linkages, he added.
The BCC was established in 1997 by virtue of Bacolod City Ordinance 175, and gained the Institutional Recognition from the CHEd that qualifies it as a free higher education institution, under Republic Act 10931, or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act of 2017. | CGC
