Task Force Kasanag (TFK) founder John Chiong strongly debunked claims that an arrested suspect linked to gunrunning activities in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, is a member of their group.
Chiong claimed that the identification card of TFK recovered from the arrested suspect identified Joevel Sumugat was fake and his signature in the ID was “scanned”, stressing that he only personally signs valid TFK IDs.
The arrest of Sumugat by operatives of the Criminal Investigation Detection Group yielded on Oct. 27 in Brgy. Robles, La Castellana, yielded a KG-9 caliber 9mm Luger with two magazines containing five ammunition, a gun silencer, P100 in buy-bust money and 42 pieces of boodle money in different denominations, as well as identification cards with the name of Sumugat, including that of Task Force Kasanag, Negros Island Region Anti-Crime Group, Kabayan Action Group and Guardians.
TFK is a civil society group that battles graft and corruption, criminality, injustice, illegal drugs and other illegal activities.
Aside from Sumugat, also arrested in another buy-bust operation in the same place was Renon Taclobos, a resident of Purok Libas, Brgy.Delicioso, Ilog. His arrest yielded an Uzi sub machine gun pistol with a magazine containing five live ammunition, P100 in buy-bust money and 32 pieces of boodle money in different denominations.
CIDG claimed that both arrested suspects are members of Tonggo Group engaged in gunrunning activities in Bacolod City, and Negros Occidental.
Chiong said he will also file a criminal case against Sumugat for misrepresentation and falsification of documents.
