The driver of an ambulance ferrying a patient to a hospital was killed after he figured in a three-vehicle collision at corner Lacson-San Sebastian Streets in Bacolod City afternoon of Nov. 11.
Four others were injured in the road mishap, investigators said.
The police identified the fatality as Jessie James Tranilla, 30. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Injured were Maria Cajeras, 30, a nurse; patient Vicente Limaco, 78, his watcher Jose Francisco Sombero III and van driver Genesis Graellos.
Traffic investigation showed that the Mitsubishi Montero sports utility vehicle driven by Kenny Arillo, 21, was heading east of San Sebastian Street, when it rammed the north-bound ambulance of the South Bacolod General Hospital enroute to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Tranilla lost control of the ambulance and hit the JMC delivery van, driven by Graellos, that was heading south of Lacson.
The ambulance was a total wreck.
Rescuers retrieved the occupants of the ambulance, who were wearing personal protective equipment.
Arillo was unhurt and was detained at the custodial facility of the Bacolod Police Station 1. – SGG
