The head of the local PDP-Laban said he will wait for the proper time to declare who to support for president in 2022, as he noted a most confusing pre-election scenario in the country’s history.

Bacolod mayoral aspirant Alfredo Benitez said it would be best to wait on who will be the anointed candidate of the national leadership.

He said he finds the election rules confusing and that these need to be strengthened to avoid any drama during the substitution period.

“For one, we don’t need that much time for substitution. There should be additional parameters on who are qualified to be substitutes,” Benitez said.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the decision on who to support can wait even up to next year.

The election period is from January 9 to June 8, 2022. The campaign period for president, vice president, senator, and party-list groups is from February 8 to May 7, and from March 25 to May 7 for those running for congressman, governor, city or municipal mayor, vice mayor, and sanggunian posts. – MML
