Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya has urged students to refrain from spreading misinformation online after a student was summoned by school authorities on Monday, June 8, for posting a false announcement of class suspension on social media.
The student, accompanied by her mother, appeared before the principal’s office of Bacolod City National High School on Monday morning.
Gasataya said the parent claimed the student’s Facebook account had been hacked.
Despite the explanation, school administrators confirmed that the student will undergo disciplinary action and counseling to prevent a recurrence of the incident.
Following the disruption, the Bacolod City government warned that authorities will track down and hold accountable anyone who intentionally fabricates or distributes fake news that disturbs public order. | TMD
