As we step into a new year, it is an opportunity to reflect, renew, and dedicate ourselves afresh to God.

The story of Jesus being presented at the Temple reminds us of the importance of dedication and setting our hearts on what truly matters. Just as Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple in obedience to God’s law, we are called to present ourselves to God, dedicating our lives to His purpose.

First, obey God’s leading.

“When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.” (Luke 2:22)

Mary and Joseph’s actions show their commitment to following God’s law and honoring Him. As we enter the new year, let us resolve to obey God’s Word and His leading in our lives.

What areas of your life need greater obedience to God? Begin the year with prayer, asking for guidance to align your life with His will.

Second, trust in God’s promises.

“Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: ‘Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace.’” (Luke 2:28-29)

Simeon waited faithfully for the fulfillment of God’s promise of the Messiah. His patience and trust were rewarded when he held Jesus in his arms. Similarly, the new year invites us to trust in God’s promises, even when they seem delayed.

Recall a promise from God’s Word that gives you hope. Trust that in His perfect time, God will fulfill His promises.

Third, dedicate yourself to God’s mission.

“This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against.” (Luke 2:34)

Jesus was dedicated to fulfilling His mission. As followers of Christ, we are called to live with purpose and be a light to those around us. The new year is an ideal time to dedicate ourselves to God’s mission.

Commit to a specific way you can serve God and others this year. Share the gospel in your daily life through words and actions.

As we welcome the new year, let us obey God’s leading, trust in His promises, and dedicate ourselves to His mission. In doing so, we will not only start the year well but also live lives that glorify God. | NWI
