Negros Occidental-based “Padayona Inday Sara” movement remains optimistic that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will eventually decide to run for president in the May 2022 elections.

Despite the lady mayor’s declaration that she will opt for re-election instead of seeking the nation’s highest seat, volunteers from various movements across the country and around the world continue to push for her candidacy.

Retired police colonel William Señoron, convenor of the “Padayona Inday Sara” movement, through the Alliance and Broadcasting Committee, said they remain hopeful that she will heed the calls of her supporters.

“There is no finality yet. There is still no closure because there is still time for her to consider running for president,” he said.

Señoron added that aside from the “Padayona Inday Sara” group, many others continue to appeal for the mayor from Mindanao to gun for the presidency, as they said they believe that she is best qualified to succeed her father, President Rodrigo Duterte.

Last week, the President’s daughter announced that she is not running for a national position because she and her father agreed that only one from the Duterte family will run for a post in the national level.

She thanked the Filipinos who expressed their trust and support in her capability to lead the country.

In Negros Occidental, the “Padayona Inday Sara” Movement, which is composed of various sectoral groups, has been conducting community activities, such as medical outreach, feeding program, and tree-planting to convince her to run for president.

Among the local chief executives in the province who have publicly declared their support for her are Silay City Mayor Mark Golez, La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan, and Hinigaran Mayor Nadie Arceo.

The filing of the Certificates of Candidacy for all elective positions in the May 9, 2022 national and local elections is ongoing until Oct. 8.|
