Negros Occidental Board Member Ernesto Agustin Bascon said he is definitely running for mayor of Himamaylan City in the 2022 elections.

This was confirmed Sept. 10 by Bascon after his separate meetings with Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson of Love Negros and Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer of the United Negros Alliance.

Bascon said he sought permission from Lacson and Ferrer and told them of his plan to run for mayor of Himamaylan, adding that both of them approved his intention.

He, however, did not divulge yet the identity of his runningmate as vice mayor.

Incumbent Himamaylan City Vice Mayor Justin Gatuslao and Board Member Rita Gatuslao, who are affiliated with UNegA, are the first cousins of Bascon.

Bascon, of Love Negros, will challenge incumbent Mayor Raymund Tongson, who will seek re-election under UNegA.

Lacson earlier said Love Negros will recommend the replacement of Bascon as board member, representing the 5th district, should he run for mayor of Himamaylan City./GB
