Sagay City Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva has ordered a review of the medical care provided to a four-year-old child at the Alfredo E. Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital, after the child’s parent raised concerns over her treatment.
In a statement on Monday, Oct. 26, Cueva said the city government is looking into the incident to determine what happened and whether proper medical procedures and patient care standards were observed.
The mother had questioned the care allegedly given to her daughter at the city hospital after the child was discharged despite having a persistent high fever.
The child was later brought to another hospital, where she tested positive for dengue.
“We sincerely hope for the child’s recovery, and we want to assure the family that their concerns are being heard and taken seriously,” Cueva said.
The mayor said he has scheduled a meeting with the hospital administration and concerned personnel within the week to review the circumstances surrounding the case.
The meeting will discuss available medical records, the care provided, and the concerns raised by the family.
Cueva emphasized that patients should receive compassionate, attentive and respectful treatment, particularly when dealing with serious illnesses.
If the review identifies shortcomings in medical care or hospital procedures, the mayor said appropriate corrective measures will be undertaken in accordance with established processes.
At the same time, Cueva recognized the dedication and sacrifices of doctors, nurses and other hospital personnel, saying healthcare workers also deserve fairness, understanding and respect while the review is being conducted.
The mayor reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the city’s public hospital remains a facility where residents can seek medical attention with confidence and where their health, safety and dignity are protected.
He appealed for public understanding as the review continues, stressing that the privacy of the child and her family, as well as the rights of the hospital personnel involved, will be respected. | GPB
