The Bais City Police Station in Negros Oriental has issued a public advisory urging market vendors, sari-sari store owners, and small business operators to remain vigilant against the circulation of suspected counterfeit P1,000 bills.

Scammers reportedly target small merchants by buying low-cost items, with fake high-value notes.

“Do not be pressured by buyers who are in a hurry. Thoroughly check the money before giving change or handing over the items. It is better to be cautious than to lose what you earned hard,” Bais police urged vendors.

Authorities advised vendors to thoroughly verify security features on every P1,000 banknote before handing over change, or goods.

They also cautioned sellers against directly confronting suspicious customers to ensure personal safety.

Business owners and the public are urged to report any fraudulent transaction, or suspected counterfeit bills, immediately to the nearest police station or via 911.

To avoid being scammed, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas always recommends the “Feel, Look, Tilt” method to check the authenticity of banknotes. | TMD
