“Very important and a good gesture for Bacolod” was how Mayor Greg Gasataya described the exchange of apologies between Bacolod Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez and Councilor Homer Bais.
Gasataya said Oct. 23 that with the reconciliation, they can now concentrate on projects and programs for the city’s development.
He recalled reporting on the status of these initiatives during his recent State of the City Address, noting that updates are continuously provided in response to inquiries.
The so-called reconciliation followed the privilege speech delivered by Bais during the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s regular session Oct. 21.
Shortly after the speech, streamed live via the SP’s official Facebook page, Benitez’s FB account posted an apology video, which Bais reciprocated in a media interview.
“Their statements after that incident are very important and a good gesture for Bacolod, so that we can concentrate on other things for the city,” Gasataya said. “My main focus right now is completing the projects that have already been started.”
He provided updates on several key city projects, including a newly-constructed motorpool and warehouse facilities for the General Services Office and the City Engineer’s Office.
The mayor said a simple blessing ceremony will be held once all preparations are finalized so the two storage structures can become operational.
Gasataya also said he recently inspected the new City Health Office (CHO) building, with the structural construction already completed.
He advised CHO officials to prepare for occupation while energization efforts are being expedited with the Negros Electric and Power Corp. to ensure a smooth transfer. | TMD
