Residents of southern Negros who require regular dialysis treatment can now access the essential medical service closer to home following the opening of a new Hemodialysis Unit at the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City.
Negros Occidental Governor Euguenio Jose Lacson led the blessing and opening of the facility on Wednesday, Oct. 20, as the province continues to improve access to specialized healthcare services in southern Negros.
Also at the opening rites were 6th District Rep. Mercedes Alvarez, Board Members Jeffrey Tubola and Genaro Alvarez IV, Kabankalan Mayor Benjie Miranda, Provincial Administrator and Hospital Operations Department OIC Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II, and other health and local government officials.
More than an additional hospital service, Lacson said the new facility brings essential healthcare closer to communities.
“Healthcare is a basic right,” Lacson said, adding that the facility also demonstrates the government’s commitment to public service.
He noted that dialysis patients should not have to endure the additional burden and expense of traveling long distances for treatment.
With the opening of the hemodialysis unit, patients from Kabankalan and neighboring communities in southern Negros are expected to spend less time and money traveling to other medical facilities for regular treatment. | GPB
