The Negros Occidental provincial government, through its Technology and Livelihood Development Center (TLDC), has partnered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to launch the “Drive to Thrive” Program.
Launched on Aug. 6, the community-based initiative is aimed at improving driving and basic mechanics skills while promoting road safety and expanding employment opportunities.
It forms part of the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen technical education and equip Negrenses with practical skills that can lead to sustainable livelihoods.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the initiative reflects the province’s commitment to creating more opportunities for residents by investing in skills development.
“Today, we open new opportunities for our fellow Negrenses by investing in their skills and capacities. Through technical education and skills training, we are equipping our people with competencies that will enable them to earn a living, pursue entrepreneurship, adapt to changing industries, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of their communities,” Lacson said.
As part of the launch, TESDA-Negros Island Region, headed by Regional Director Niña Connie Dodd, awarded a trainer certification to the Negros Occidental provincial government, officially accrediting the TLDC to conduct training and competency assessments in Basic Driving and Basic Mechanics.
Graduates of the program will be eligible to obtain National Certificate (NC) II qualifications in both fields, increasing their chances for employment and livelihood opportunities.
The program’s first batch of trainees includes emergency medical technicians and emergency medical responders from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The participants will undergo training to improve their ability to safely operate and perform basic maintenance on the province’s Level 1 ambulances and other emergency response vehicles.
Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II said the provincial government intends to expand the program to other government employees as well as scholars of the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center and the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program. ||
