Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island recorded a series of ash emission events from its summit crater over the past two days, prompting authorities to remind residents of surrounding localities to remain alert for possible ashfall.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that it has recorded two ash emissions on June 13, with grayish ash plume rising about 600 meters above the summit crater.
Phivolcs warned communities of possible ashfall following ash emissions, urging especially those living in areas surrounding to take precautionary measures.
On Friday, Phivolcs also reported an earlier ash emission on June 12, which generated grayish plumes reaching 300 meters above the crater before drifting northwest.
Despite the recurring ash emissions, Phivolcs said that Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, indicating a state of increased unrest and the possibility of further volcanic activity. | GPB
