The Schools Division Office of Victorias brought pride to the city after its film “Mia” earned seven major awards, three nominations, and one special citation during the first Negros Island Region Peace Film Festival awarding ceremony held in Dumaguete City recently.
The film won Best Picture, Best Peace Advocacy Impact, Best Cinematography, Best Musical Soundtrack, and Best Editing.
Lead actress Norelle Jance received the Best Actress award, while Jonabel Dela China earned Best Supporting Actress.
“Mia” was produced under the supervision of chairperson Portia Mission Mallorca and production manager Emma Dequito, who also served as the SDO peace coordinator, and was directed by Joshua Lorenz Estilo, the city said May 30.
The film also received nominations for Best Screenplay, Best Actor for Yong Kim, and Best Director for Estilo, alongside a special citation for Best Character Portrayal.
Beyond its accolades, “Mia” promoted advocacy against bullying through film and storytelling that highlighted peace and social awareness.
The screenplay was written by Estilo and Jhenica Lazaro, while cinematography was led by Estilo alongside Alhea Saribano, Xavier Maguliman, and Jerald Liscano.
Editing was handled by Estilo, Lazaro, and Saribano, while the film’s sound and musical scoring were managed by Estilo, Maguliman, Simuon Villaseñor, and Freah Abella.
The cast also included Adrian Granado, Jay Bryan Padrones, Charles Casabuena, Jay-R Galeno, Jennalou Gualberto, Maxelle Cornel, and Adam Gabrielle Fama.
Script review, casting, and filming locations were overseen by Iyl Aguilar, Krishna Gansico, and Emma Dequito, while the production was carried out by the Schools Division Office of Victorias City.
The achievement highlighted the creativity, advocacy, and talent of Victoriasanons in using film as a platform for peace education and social awareness, the city said. ||
