Negros voters urged to register for BSKE before May 18 deadline

The Commission on Elections in the Negros Island Region (Comelec-NIR) is urging voters to register for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) ahead of the May 18 deadline.

Lionel Marco Castillano, regional election director of Comelec-NIR based in this capital, told the Philippine News Agency that they will conclude the voters’ registration by the original deadline set by the poll body, irrespective of any potential delay of the BSKE.

“There are quarters that are pushing for the postponement of the Nov. 2, 2026 BSKE, although up to now, there is still no final decision on that. Therefore, we will continue as scheduled,” Castillano said.

He noted that the registration deadline is just about three weeks away and based on previous trends, voters tend to wait until the last minute to sign up, only to discover they are missing some requirements.

Meanwhile, the Comelec here said it is extending its work-from-home arrangement with no offices every Monday, pursuant to Minute Resolution 26-0245, Castillano said.

Voter registration continues from Tuesday to Saturday, providing an opportunity for individuals who are unable to register during weekdays.

Satellite registration is also held at Robinsons Place mall in Dumaguete City. ||
