The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Emergency Operations Center in Negros Occidental has been placed on blue alert status, in the observance of Holy Week.
It will take effect from April 1 to 6.
Police visibility at key transport hubs nationwide has been intensified as Holy Week travel picks up, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.
Increased presence in terminals, ports, and places of worship is part of a heightened alert status of the PNP that began on Palm Sunday.
The PNP is also preparing for heavy traffic on expressways and national highways.
Motorists and travelers are also being urged to follow safety reminders, such as ensuring the good condition of vehicles before long trips, observing speed limits, wearing of seatbelts and helmets at all times, avoiding the use of mobile phones while driving, and taking regular rest breaks to prevent fatigue.
Likewise, travelers are encouraged to plan routes ahead, check traffic updates, and stay hydrated.
Families and groups are reminded to secure belongings and drive courteously, keeping in mind that patience and careful driving save lives.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) also reminded the public to take extra precautions as passenger traffic surges in ports nationwide ahead of the Holy Week exodus.
PCG also heightened its alert status and deployed personnel in major seaports to ensure the safety and security of travelers.
The agency expects a significant increase in passengers as families head to provinces and tourist destinations for the long holiday.
In Negros Occidental, the PCG deployed 185 personnel in all ports across the province. ||
