The House Committee on Higher and Technical Education (CHTE) has appointed Negros Occidental 3rd District Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez as permanent representative to the Board of Regents (BOR) of the Carlos Hilado Memorial State University Feb. 19.
The designation, effective Jan. 1, 2026 until June 30, 2028, was issued by CHTE chairperson and Tingog partylist Rep. Jude Acidre, pursuant to Section 3 of Republic Act 8292, or the Higher Education Modernization Act of 1997.
Under the law, the CHTE chairperson serves as an ex-officio member of the governing boards of all state universities and colleges (SUCs).
As designated permanent representative, Benitez is authorized to perform the powers, prerogatives, and duties of a Board member under sections 4, 5, and 6 of RA 8292, consistent with laws on agency and related statutes.
In a statement, the CHMSU welcomed Benitez’s appointment. “His leadership and vision will help guide our university toward greater innovation, inclusivity, and service to the community.” ||
