Internationally-recognized restaurateur Margarita Fores and upcoming Bacolod-based chef and Negros Weekly/Negros Now Daily food columnist Don Angelo Colmenares are among the Negrense talents, who will take centerstage in the Department of Tourism-organized activity that will be shown on FB Live tomorrow, Nov. 24.

Dubbed as “Kain Na! Slow Food, Slow Travel”,  the 9 to 11 a.m. event will be attended by Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, a leading figure in the organic agriculture movement.

“Kain Na!” pairs Fores, chef-owner of Grace Park, with another Negros-based organic farmer, Kiko Torno, who runs Seven Hectares in E.B. Magalona.

Colmenares, chef-owner of Berbeza Bistro,  is paired with organic entrepreneur Ramon “Chin-Chin” Uy, Jr., whose farm, Fresh Start Organics, is based in Hacienda Maquina, Barangay Rizal, Silay City.

The last pair that will be featured tomorrow are Banahaw Circle Natural Retreat’s Annabel Tanco and Jeannie Javelosa, also a Negrense.

Colmenares, who writes the column, “Kaon Ta”, for the Negros Weekly news magazine,  said the event will also show a video presentation of Fresh Start’s produce and ingredients which he uses for his presentation and Berbeza.

The concept of the activity is to actually promote our local producers, growers and farmers. Everyday, for one week until Nov. 27, new pairs will be featured on “Kain Na!” via FB Live, Colmenares added.

“This is virtual first. And a virtual feast!,” Uy added.

The farmers, Uy continued, will tell the “story of their farms and show their harvest, while the chefs will transform these produce into mouthwatering dishes”.

Forés, a Slow Food chef,  and Seven Hectares will showcase the sustainably-farmed fish and clams, while Colmenares will prepare a feast with Fresh Start’s harvest, Uy said.
