The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod has commended Bernalyn Bejoy Dec. 22 for winning the bronze medal in the women’s 800-meter run at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand recently.

“The City is proud that Bejoy’s success will again remind the rest of the Bacolodnon athletes to wholeheartedly commit and dedicate themselves to their passion, and reach their dreams,” the resolution of commendation, authored by Councilor Jason Villarosa and approved by the SP yesterday, states.

Bacolod Lone District Rep. Alfredo Benitez also earlier congratulated Bejoy. “Your hard work, discipline, and perseverance inspire many and bring pride to both our city and our country. Padayon, Bernalyn.”

The city said that Bejoy’s bronze medal finish is more than just a personal victory. “It is a win for every young athlete, who dares to dream big, trains hard, and refuses to give up.”

Mayor Greg Gasataya had said that from her early days at Romanito P. Maravilla Sr. National High School to competing on the international stage, Bejoy’s “journey is proof that discipline, perseverance, and heart truly matter.”

She carried the Philippine Flag with pride, stood strong among the best in Southeast Asia, and showed the world what Bacolodnon grit looks like, the city stressed. | CGC
