The Armando Sumayang Jr. Command of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Negros Island claimed responsibility for the death of another civilian in Kabankalan City on Dec. 13.

In a statement, rebel spokesperson Ka Andrea Guerrero claimed that victim Amay Jimenez, 52, served as an active military informant.

Guerrero  alleged that the information relayed by Jimenez to the military led to the conduct of  a joint operation of the Philippine Army and Philippine National Police  Special Action Force on Nov. 30, 2022, and the death of his own brother, Joseph, and rebel leader Ericson Acosta.

Acosta was the first deputy secretary of the NPA Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor and head of the Political Unified Committee in the Visayas, according the Philippine Army.

Guerrero said that Jimenez was a legitimate military target.

Investigation of the Kabankalan City Police Station showed the victim was fixing his motorcycle when two men came and shot him at close range.

Two bullet shells of caliber .45 pistol were recovered by the police. | GB
