The 61 barangays of Bacolod are being urged by the Sangguniang Panlungsod to intensify public awareness and community-based campaigns against the use of dangerous firecrackers this Christmas season.
“The City of Bacolod recognizes the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents, especially during the Christmas and New Year celebrations when firecracker-related injuries traditionally increase,” the SP said in approving the resolution.
Authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, the resolution stressed the need to implement “Oplan Kontra Paputok” and similar safety programs to promote safe, healthy, and responsible Christmas and New Year celebrations.
“The 61 barangays of Bacolod serve as frontline units of community governance, and their active participation in information dissemination, monitoring, and enforcement is vital to the success of any public safety campaign,” like the Oplan Kontra Paputok, Distrito said.
He added that a unified and intensified citywide information campaign, using the social media, barangay assemblies, posters, public announcements, and collaboration with schools and civic groups, will significantly help reduce firecracker-related injuries, fires, and property damage.
“Promoting the use of safe alternative noisemakers, regulated community fireworks displays, and adherence to existing laws and ordinances contribute to a safer and more peaceful celebration of the holidays for all Bacolodnons,” the SP stressed. | CGC
