Mayor Greg Gasataya said that starting tonight, Nov. 12, the Bacolod Government Center (BGC) lobby will be available as a free co-working space for virtual assistants and online workers amid the still unrestored power in several areas of the city.
“This co-working space will welcome online workers from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. every day until power is reasonably restored,” Gasataya said in a post Nov. 11. “The space can accommodate 40 voice workers and 60 non-voice workers, providing a supportive environment for our online workforce to carry on with their livelihood during this time.”
He took note of the impact of the ongoing power outage due to Typhoon Tino, especially on online workers. “Many of you have relied on our existing co-working space in Ayala Capitol Central during the day, and we understand that the need does not end when it closes at 6:30 p.m. To make sure that you have a safe and reliable place to stay connected even after hours, we are opening the BGC lobby as its nighttime extension.”

The mayor said this would ensure that online workers can continue their work comfortably and securely amid the ongoing challenges brought by the recent typhoons, adding that registration details will be released soon.
Gasataya also said that he met with telco service providers to further strengthen coordination on restoration efforts. “PLDT and Globe have aligned their workflows to address issues on toppled poles, cut wires, and disrupted internet connectivity more efficiently.”
Telco service providers and Negros Power teams will also join the city’s clearing operations in a bid to expedite the restoration of electricity and internet connectivity in the highly-urbanized city, a week after Tino pummeled Bacolod and Negros, he added. | CGC
