Twenty-four octogenarians and nonagenarians from barangays Taculing and Pahanocoy in Bacolod each received P10,000 during the recent third quarter payout of the city’s Ladderized Centenarian Program.
Of the 24 beneficiaries, 15 were from Barangay Taculing, while nine were from Barangay Pahanocoy, the city said in a press release Sept. 6, adding this initiative, fully supported by Mayor Greg Gasataya, seeks to recognize and honor the invaluable contributions and wisdom of qualified elderly of the community, who have reached milestone ages.
The assistance is pursuant to City Ordinance 910, or the Ladderized Cash Incentive Centenarian Award Ordinance of Bacolod, passed on Nov. 6, 2019.
Under the ordinance, Bacolod residents 80 to 89 years old will receive P10,000, another P10,000 for those 90 to 99, and the remaining P80,000 will be given to those who will reach 100 years old.
The program has a P5 million annual allocation.
The ordinance aims to make the centenarian incentive ladderized so that beneficiaries may be able to enjoy this benefit before they reach the age of 100.
Department of Social Services and Development social workers Wendy Castro, Grace Vallencia, and Dy-Ann Torrecarion, along with barangay representatives, facilitated the smooth distribution of the cash grants at the respective barangay halls.
The program reflects Gasataya’s commitment to offering vital support and services for vulnerable sectors, particularly senior citizens, the city said.
The mayor’s first executive order, signed on June 30, directed the establishment of a Senior Citizens Center in Bacolod, underscoring his administration’s prioritization of elder care and welfare, it added. ||
