The Bacolod local government intensified its disaster response initiatives with the distribution of emergency go-bags to vulnerable groups July 24, while extending aid to families impacted by Typhoon Crising.
Over 500 senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) received waterproof emergency go-bags during a ceremonial turnover at the Bacolod Government Center (BGC) lobby.

The kits, provided through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), included a 44-piece first aid kit, flashlight, whistle, survival card, portable tumbler, and other essentials to enhance readiness for calamities.
Mayor Greg Gasataya underscored the urgency of prioritizing vulnerable populations, saying, “There are no exemptions when disaster strikes.”
He also announced plans to convert the BGC Annex Building into a dedicated Senior Citizens Center, and confirmed that “Senior Citizens and PWD Day” will remain a highlight of October’s MassKara Festival.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to inclusive service – impartial and equitable – and care for those who need it most,” Gasataya said in a city press release.
Vice Mayor Claudio Puentevella, councilors Celia Flor, Thaddy Sayson, Caesar Distrito, Jason Villarosa, Em Ang, and Homer Bais joined the event, alongside DRRMO head Dr. Anna Marie Laarni Pornan and DSSD head Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga, among others.
Meanwhile, 830 families affected by flooding due to habagat and Typhoon Crising received food and relief packs.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development Negros Island Region collaborated with the city and barangays Singcang-Airport, Cabug, and Granada to expedite the aid distribution, the press release said.
Barangay officials expressed their gratitude with Singcang-Airport punong barangay Rosinie Distrito acknowledging Gasataya’s coordination with the DSWD.
The DSSD-Bacolod, on the other hand, is processing the release of P10,000 in financial aid for four Granada families, whose homes were damaged by floodwaters and fallen trees.
Verdeprado-Mangga said each qualified family with damaged houses is expected to receive P10,000 for the immediate repair of their homes. ||
