Our first day in Korea was marked by a meaningful experience as we attended the induction and turnover ceremonies of the Mu Gung Hwa Lions Club, District 354-B, Republic of Korea. It was truly heartening to learn that our twin club has proudly served the community for 44 years. The ceremonies were called to order by President Eo Sung Ryong and were conducted with solemnity and impeccable organization. Thanks to Billy, the son of the outgoing president, we were able to follow and appreciate most parts of the program, deepening our connection with our Korean counterparts.
The leadership baton was officially passed to the 44th Club President, Lion Park Jung-ki, affectionately nicknamed Philip by our members in anticipation of his visit to our induction ceremony on July 26. This moment symbolized the continuity of dedicated service and friendship between our clubs.
On the second day, our gracious Korean hosts treated us to a delightful tour of Nami Island, a picturesque destination known for its natural beauty. We then visited the Soyanggang Dam Observatory, offering breathtaking views and insights into Korea’s infrastructure. Our cultural immersion continued with a visit to a large Korean supermarket, where we experienced local flavors and products. The day culminated in a warm dinner hosted by the Mu Gung Hwa Lions Club Past Presidents. To cap off the evening, we enjoyed a lively karaoke session where members from Cavite ASMEPPS showcased their signature dance, “Touch by Touch,” while our hosts joined in singing, creating a joyful atmosphere of camaraderie.
The third day was equally enriching. Thanks to our hosts, we participated in a Coal Briquette Volunteer Activity, an impactful community service initiative. This was followed by a Korean cultural experience where we learned to make Pepero, a beloved Korean snack. Breakfast and lunch were generously hosted by a former president of Mu Gung Hwa Lions, further strengthening our bonds.
We also had the privilege of visiting Sutasan Temple in Hongcheon, a serene and spiritual site that offered us a glimpse into Korean heritage. Afterwards, we toured the Mu Gung Hwa Lions Club office, where the deep roots of Lionism were evident. The walls displayed photographs of past presidents and a framed copy of our Twinning Agreement between Cavite ASMEPPS 103-A, Philippines, and Mu Gung Hwa Lions Club of Korea, symbolizing decades of partnership and mutual respect.
Our four-day visit concluded with a memorable dinner hosted by a past president, where we savored authentic Korean samgyeopsal, a culinary highlight that perfectly complemented our cultural journey.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the officers and members of Mu Gung Hwa Lions Club for their warm hospitality and for providing us with such a wonderful and enriching experience. This visit not only strengthened our twinning relationship but also deepened our shared commitment to service and friendship across borders. ||
