Victorias City marks Environment Week

Victorias City officially launched its Environment Week celebration, on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” during the regular flag-raising ceremony at the public plaza June 2, followed by a fruit tree planting at the Old Dumpsite in Barangay XIV.

In line with the global observance of Environment Month this June, the Victorias City Environment and Natural Resources Office (VCENRO) has lined up a week-long series of activities aimed at encouraging collective action to combat plastic pollution and other activities in line with conservation efforts for the environment.

VCENRO head Lara Ann Garcia delivered the opening message, highlighting the urgency of addressing the harmful effects of plastic waste, and emphasizing the relevance of this year’s theme.

The opening program also outlined the scheduled activities for the week, which include a multi-sectoral mangrove planting day, in partnership with the provincial government of Negros Occidental on June 5, and a mural painting contest on June 6.

To kick off the celebration, 300 grafted duhat seedlings from the City Nursery were planted by volunteers from various groups and organizations in Victorias.

The tree planting activity was joined by 120 participants, including Victorias City employees and summer job volunteers from the Public Employment Services Office, SAFRG Phi, USRCP, BJMP, PGBI 1, AYOS Program Grantees, and the Environment Week Committee, comprised of the City Agriculture Office, Rotary Club, Victorias PNP, CDRRMO, and VCENRO, the city said.

The City Environment Week serves as a strong reminder of the shared responsibility of all Victoriasanons to care for the environment, reinforcing the city’s commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future. ||
