A young Sagaynon has earned one of the highest individual honors on the international softball stage.
Arabella Jito, a 14-year-old Grade 9 student of Sagay National High School, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 2026 PONY International Softball World Series Girls 14-Under Division after leading Team Philippines, represented by Team Sagay City, in its outstanding campaign in McAllen, Texas.
For the past three years, Arabella has been the team’s ace pitcher, developing her skills since entering Grade 7 at Sagay National High School.
Together with her older sister, Nathalia Jito, a Grade 10 student who plays first base, the siblings have become key contributors to the city’s softball program.
Their love for the sport began even before high school, playing in elementary competitions before eventually joining the Sagay National High School softball team.
Behind Arabella’s success is the unwavering support of her family, especially her father, Ever Jito, a job order employee and driver of the city government of Sagay, who has continually encouraged his daughters to pursue their passion for softball despite the challenges along the way.
Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva congratulated Arabella on her remarkable achievement, saying her recognition is a proud moment not only for her family but for the entire Sagaynon community.
“Arabella’s journey reminds us that excellence is built through perseverance, discipline, and the support of family and community,” Cueva said in a city press release. “Her achievement inspires every young Sagaynon to dream bigger and believe that they, too, can compete with the best in the world.” ||
