Victoriasanon artists Raymart Romelo, Edrian Jaranilla, and Marjolene Masa from the Malayang Kamay Victoriasanon Artists Group participated in the Negros leg of Project Panatag, a nationwide workshop series of the Philippine Women’s University’s Arts-Based Research Center, held at Orange Project in Bacolod City recently.

Project Panatag is an arts-based psychosocial research initiative focused on subjective mapping in the Visayas, with Negros Island selected to represent the region, the city said in a press release.

The workshop brought together artists from various local government units, including the cities of Victorias, Silay, Talisay, and Bacolod, to contribute to the Subjective Atlas of the Philippines, which is an internationally-published project that highlights local narratives and regional artistic perspectives.

The Negros workshop was co-organized by Orange Project, led by veteran Negrense artist Charlie Co.

Belgian researcher and designer Anelyss De Vet of Subjective Editions, a key partner in the project, served as resource speaker.

The Project Panatag team, headed by coordinator Dominique Arcenas and De Vet, also visited Victorias, and was welcomed by City Culture and Ethics officer and chief-of-staff to the mayor, Dr. Joselito Diaz.

The city tour included visits to the Mangrove Eco-Trail in Barangay VI-A, and the iconic Angry Christ mural at the St. Joseph the Worker Chapel.

Victorias strongly supports Project Panatag by providing a meaningful experience for both local and visiting artists, which solidifies the city’s thrust towards cultural and artistic development initiatives. | VCIO photos
