The Baciwa-PrimeWater management said May 7 that an additional three million liters per day (MLD) of water is now being supplied to several barangays in Bacolod City, with the recent activation of its Matab-ang water treatment plant in Brgy. Granada.

It is expected to improve the supply of water to around 5,000 households, particularly in barangays 27, 28, 30, Estefania, Villamonte, and Mandalagan, the management said in a statement, adding the supply could increase to 6MLD within the year.

The Matab-ang project involves the construction of about a kilometer of transmission line, from the plant to the injection point in the 2.6-million-gallon reservoir in Loygoy, Granada, that will then be supplied to households.

“This project is just one of the initiatives and developments we are implementing together with our joint venture partner Baciwa to ensure a more stable water supply that we provide to our consumers,” PrimeWater said.

Mayor Alfredo Benitez, meanwhile, urged Bacolodnons “to stay vigilant and report water concerns in your areas as we push for lasting solutions for Bacolod.”

He said that water access remains a top priority of his administration.

Benitez earlier met with executives from the Bacolod City Water District and PrimeWater to discuss immediate and long-term solutions to the inadequate water supply in the highly-urbanized city.

Baciwa-PrimeWater had reported that Bacolod’s current water production was at 78.78MLD, as of April 10 this year, from 69.96MLD in the same period in 2024.

It also committed to delivering “a sustainable water supply and better water service to Bacolodnons by developing and carrying out projects that will guarantee a more dependable supply to every consumer.” | CGC
