The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) has reported that 11 hectares of rice fields in three barangays of Cauayan in southern Negros Occidental have been affected by the dry season, as of May 2.

OPA estimated initial damage at P552,425.

The affected barangays are Basak, Man-uling, and Tuyom.

OPA has submitted a P15 million budget to the Office of the Governor to cushion the impact of the dry spell on Negrense farmers.

But Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson wants a detailed program of OPA mitigating measures, stressing that the provincial government is result-oriented.

Lacson assured the farmers that the provincial government is preparing something to help them.

“We just want to know the target results from the proposal of OPA,” he said./GB
